The archaeological site of Felix Romuliana is located in Zaječar, in eastern Serbia. The site is named after Emperor Galerius (305-311 AD), who was born in nearby Romula (present-day Ras), and it was an imperial residence during the tetrarchy (293-305 AD). After Galerius’ death, the site was used as a fortified settlement and an arsenal by the Goths. In the 12th century, it was abandoned and the ruins were used as a quarry. The site was rediscovered and excavated in the 1930s by the Serbian archaeologist Dragoslav Đorđević.
